Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA) Egypt – Cairo, Egypt

GYCA Egypt is a unique youth-led organization that builds the capacity of community-based organizations that work with young marginalized women to deliver youth-friendly HIV and sexual reproductive health related awareness, information and services.

During the last years, the organization has built the capacity of 22 community based organizations (CBOs) working with young at-risk women on how to incorporate HIV and SRHR education, testing and related service referrals into their programming. It has trained more than 60 young women social workers from these CBOs on how to facilitate peer-led workshops on HIV prevention and coordinate referrals for services.

The organization has indirectly reached over 5000 young women providing them with HIV information and testing services through its work with the CBOs. It also organized a World AIDS Day event with all partner CBOs to build a lose network among them and advocate together for the cause. With HYLF support GYCA Egypt was also able to register itself as an independent youth-led non-profit in Egypt.

Taking forward its work so far, GYCA Egypt has formed a coalition with 10 of the 22 CBOs and built on these CBOs’ existing HIV outreach with additional focus on access to counseling, testing and treatment services.
